The Nobel Prize Awards

December 10:th is a very special date to keep in mind, since it is the anniversary of Nobel’s death.

Since 1901 the Nobel Prizes has been presented on that particular date at a grand ceremony traditionally held at Stockholm City Hall.

At the ceremony the Swedish king, King Carl XVI Gustaf, presents the laureates with their medals and diplomas. Each laureate is expected to deliver a brief speach and to participate in the following festivities.

The Nobel Prize Banquet is usually held at “Blå Hallen” (see photo), with the exception of 2020 when it was cancelled due to Covid-19.

Peace: World Food Programme

Rewarded in 2020 for fighting hunger and for its recentless efforts to prevent conflicted areas to use hunger as an excuse to fight.

Literature: Louise Glück

Rewarded in 2020 for her poetic voice and for making individual existence appear universal.

Medicine: Harvey J. Alter, Charles M. Rice and Michael Houghton.

Rewarded in 2020 for discovering the Hepatitis C virus.
